Traditional Chinese medicine enema treatment for chronic prostatitis

Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) enemas are not only effective in treating chronic prostatitis, but also simple and easy to perform at home with no significant side effects. The specific method is as follows: The patient empties their bowels and bladder, lies on their side, and inserts a disposable catheter 7-10 cm into the anus. Then, using a 50 ml syringe, injects 100-200 ml of a 40°C (approximately 200°C) solution in divided doses. The catheter is then removed. The patient should not sit up or stand immediately to prevent leakage of the solution. The best time for treatment is before bedtime. Several effective TCM enema formulas are introduced below.

How to perform massage therapy

1. The patient lies supine. The practitioner stands on the left side of the patient's abdomen and presses the metacarpophalangeal joint of the left index finger on the patient's Zhongwan acupoint (on the anterior midline, 4 cun above the navel). Then, the practitioner presses the back of the left index finger's metacarpophalangeal joint with the heel of the right palm. The practitioner then presses downwards with the patient's breathing until a certain depth is reached, and continues to press for 5 minutes. After the patient feels numbness and distension in the lower abdomen, perineum, or lower limbs, the practitioner slowly lifts the hand to allow the heat to flow through the bladder and urethra to the toes of the lower limbs, so as to warm and tonify the spleen and kidneys, clear heat and promote diuresis.

2. The practitioner places the pads of both thumbs on the Shuidao acupoint (3 inches below the navel and 2 inches lateral to the Guanyuan acupoint), and then gradually presses down until the patient feels warmth in the lower abdomen. After pressing for 1 minute, the practitioner slowly lifts their hands to regulate the water passages in the lower abdomen. Then, the practitioner gently rubs the patient's lower abdomen counterclockwise with both palms to promote blood circulation, eliminate dampness and heat.

3. The patient lies prone, and the practitioner stands on the left side of the patient's waist. The practitioner uses the palm of one hand to rub up and down along the spine in the lumbosacral region until a warm sensation is felt at the Shenshu and Dachangshu acupoints to warm and tonify the spleen yang.

Treat according to the above method, once a day, for 10 times as one course of treatment.

The patient should assume a squatting or lateral flexed position. After defecation, clean the anus and lower rectum. Use your middle or index finger to press on the prostate gland for 3-5 minutes each time, ideally until prostatic fluid is discharged from the urethra each time. The pressure should be very gentle during the massage. Lubricate the finger cot with soapy water before massaging to reduce discomfort. Each massage treatment should be spaced at least 3 days apart. If, during self-massage, you notice significant tenderness or increased cystic sensation in the prostate, consult a specialist promptly to avoid an acute exacerbation of chronic prostatitis.
