What should we pay attention to in daily life?
1. Genital warts are not a shameful disease, and there's no need to feel anxious or depressed if you have a sexually transmitted infection. Early diagnosis and treatment are the correct approach. Patients should not wait until the warts grow larger and interfere with their physiological functions before seeing a doctor. A comprehensive examination of the vulva, vagina, and cervix is necessary during the consultation.
2. Treatment for genital warts can be troublesome and painful, but you should not stop treatment because of this. Follow-up examinations are necessary after treatment.
3. While actively treating the condition, it's also important to avoid infecting others: First, sexual activity should be prohibited, and the partner should also undergo examination and treatment. Second, whether someone has warts or is an asymptomatic carrier, they are contagious. Therefore, personal basins and towels should be used individually, and underwear should not be shared. Wash the vulva 1-2 times daily, and sitz baths with traditional Chinese medicine can be used. Keep the vulva clean and dry, change underwear frequently to reduce irritation from secretions, and wash and disinfect used underwear separately.
4. Genital warts are prone to recurrence when physical therapy is used alone. Therefore, it is important to observe the condition carefully and seek timely follow-up treatment. It is best to use a combination of methods for comprehensive treatment.
5. Because some types of human papillomavirus (HPV) are carcinogenic, if genital warts recur frequently, it is important to seek medical attention promptly for a biopsy and pathological examination to avoid delaying treatment. Regular comprehensive gynecological examinations are also necessary.
Sexual partners should be examined at the same time, and both should be thoroughly checked, because the incubation period for genital warts is quite long (up to six months). Some patients may have already infected their partners without realizing it, and mistake repeated infections after being cured for relapses. Therefore, it is essential to emphasize that sexual partners should be treated simultaneously.
In the treatment of genital warts, one should not only focus on treating the raised warts and assume that everything is fine once they are cured. In fact, many subclinical infections are the key to the recurrence of this disease, so it is essential to pay attention to re-examination, diagnosis, and treatment.
