Notice regarding the 2003 Men's Health Awareness Day activities

Family planning commissions of all provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities directly under the Central Government; family planning commissions of cities with independent planning status and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps; family planning commissions of central government departments and central state organs; and family planning leading group offices of the People's Liberation Army and the Armed Police Force:

In order to strengthen the popularization of population and family planning science knowledge, further promote the "new marriage and childbearing customs into every household" campaign, popularize scientific knowledge about husbands' responsibility in family planning and men's health among the general public of childbearing age, awaken men's initiative and sense of responsibility in participating in family planning, establish scientific, civilized and progressive marriage and childbearing concepts, and build happy and harmonious families, according to the work arrangements of our commission, the theme and relevant requirements of the 2003 "Men's Health Promotion Day" activities are hereby notified as follows:

I. Activity Theme

The theme of the 2003 "Men's Health Awareness Day" was: "Caring for Men's Health and Popularizing Scientific Knowledge".

In today's my country, with the deepening of reform and opening up and the rapid development of the national economy and society, men face pressure from family, employment, and society. Caring for men's health means advocating a holistic health concept, focusing on men's physical and mental health and their social resilience. It addresses men's concerns and anxieties regarding family planning, reproductive health, mental well-being, and social responsibility, aiming to create harmonious and fulfilling marital lives and improve the quality of family life. This campaign aims to widely promote scientific knowledge about male reproductive health, including sexual dysfunction, sexual psychological disorders, prevention of sexually transmitted diseases, HIV/AIDS, and infertility, through a series of large-scale public awareness campaigns. It calls on the whole society to care for men's health and encourages men to consciously shoulder their responsibilities to their families and society, including those related to production, life, reproduction, and eugenics.

II. Activity Arrangement

The "Men's Health Promotion Day" activities sponsored by the National Population and Family Planning Commission in 2003 will be held concurrently with the "Second China Family Planning/Reproductive Health New Technology and New Product Expo" in Dalian. The specific arrangements are as follows:

1. In accordance with the theme of "Men's Health Promotion Day", a promotional booth for "Men's Health Day" will be set up at the expo to promote and popularize scientific knowledge about men's health and scientific, civilized and progressive concepts of marriage and childbearing, provide reproductive health services, and organize expert consultations and free clinics.

2. Organize relevant experts to conduct lectures and answer questions on popularizing scientific knowledge about men's health and improving the quality of family life; have relevant units introduce their experiences in men's participation and men's health.

3. Organize relevant personnel to visit the "Men's Health Community" in Dalian and participate in related community activities.

4. Organize journalists from news organizations to interview and report on relevant leaders, news figures, and the "Men's Health Promotion Day" activities.

III. Requirements for the Activity

(I) All units should, in light of local conditions and closely integrate with the "New Marriage and Childbearing Customs Entering Every Household" campaign, create a strong social publicity momentum and public opinion atmosphere around the theme of "Men's Health Promotion Day." They should strengthen cooperation with departments such as publicity, health, culture, radio and television, and mass organizations to hold men's health training courses, men's reproductive health exhibitions, provide men's health consultations and guidance, distribute promotional materials related to men's health, and organize diverse and colorful social publicity activities such as newspaper columns, television and radio special lectures, etc.

(II) The China Population Culture Promotion Association will continue to summarize and promote the pilot community work on male health publicity and education, so that this activity can truly rely on the community, enter the family, serve the masses, encourage the majority of male citizens to participate in family planning, popularize scientific knowledge, and build happy families.

(III) All units should pay attention to summarizing their experiences and promptly report the relevant information and activities of "Men's Health Promotion Day" to the Publicity and Education Department of our Commission.
