Treatment and recuperation of common diseases
What tests should be done?
1. Semen analysis: The sperm count exceeds 200 million per milliliter, with a large number of immature and abnormal sperm, and an increased amount of dead sperm.
2. Examination of prostatic fluid: Microscopic examination of prostatic fluid revealed an increased number of white blood cells and uneven distribution and reduced number of lecithin bodies.
How does Western medicine treat this?
Generally, 500 ml of normal saline can be administered orally or intravenously daily. Simultaneously, symptomatic treatment should be given to address the underlying cause of the polyspermia.
How does Traditional Chinese Medicine differentiate syndromes and treat diseases?
1. Damp-heat accumulation type: Symptoms include infertility after prolonged marriage, increased sperm count, slightly yellow semen, pain in the lower abdomen, perineum, and testicles, urethral pain or whitish discharge, perineal discomfort, bitter and greasy taste in the mouth, red tongue with yellow and greasy coating, and slippery and rapid pulse.
Treatment principle: Clear heat and dampness.
Prescription: Poria cocos 10g, Polyporus umbellatus 10g, Alisma plantago-aquatica 10g, Prunus persica 10g, Smilax glabra 15g, Pangolin scales 10g, Trichosanthes kirilowii 10g, Lonicera japonica 30g, Citrus reticulata 10g, Fritillaria thunbergii 10g.
2. Yin deficiency with fire excess type: Symptoms include infertility after marriage, sperm count significantly higher than normal, irritability and insomnia, strong libido, dizziness and headache, night sweats, flushed cheeks, red tongue with little coating, and thready and rapid pulse.
Treatment principle: Nourish Yin and reduce internal heat.
Prescription: 10g Phellodendron bark, 10g Anemarrhena rhizome, 15g Rehmannia root, 10g Cornus fruit, 10g Dioscorea rhizome, 10g Alisma rhizome, 10g Moutan bark, 10g Poria cocos, 15g Tortoise shell, 15g Turtle shell, 10g Chrysanthemum, 10g Scrophularia root.
3. Qi stagnation and blood stasis type: Symptoms include infertility after marriage, increased sperm count, lower back pain, lower abdominal distension and discomfort, irritability, insomnia, pain during ejaculation, dark red tongue or petechiae, and choppy pulse.
Treatment principle: Promote blood circulation, remove blood stasis, regulate qi, and relieve pain.
Prescription: 10g peach kernel, 10g safflower, 15g angelica sinensis, 15g rehmannia glutinosa, 10g chuanxiong rhizome, 10g red peony root, 15g achyranthes bidentata root, 6g platycodon grandiflorus root, 6g bupleurum chinense root, 6g licorice root.
Traditional Chinese medicine prescriptions for treating polyspermia
1. 30g of *Luffa cylindrica*, 15g of *Gardenia jasminoides*, 15g of *Curcuma zedoaria*, 15g of *Prunus persica*, 10g of *Carthamus tinctorius*, 10g of *Paeonia lactiflora*, 10g of *Ligusticum chuanxiong*, 10g of *Achyranthes bidentata*, 10g of *Anemarrhena asphodeloides*, 10g of *Phellodendron chinense*, 30g of *Lycium barbarum*, 30g of *Rubus idaeus*, and 30g of *Paeonia suffruticosa*. Decocted in water and taken once daily.
2. Take 15 grams of Sophora flavescens, 50 grams of Cremastra appendiculata, 15 grams of cottonseed, and 15 grams of Paris polyphylla. Decocted in water and taken orally once a day.
3. Coptis chinensis 10g, Scutellaria baicalensis 10g, Phellodendron chinense 10g, Gardenia jasminoides 10g, and processed rhubarb 10g. One dose per day, decocted in water and taken orally.
Medicinal diet for treating polyspermia
1. One duck, 10-12 grams of cordyceps. Remove the feathers and entrails from the duck and wash it clean. Put the cordyceps inside the duck's abdomen, sew up the incision, add an appropriate amount of water, and steam until cooked. Add appropriate amounts of salt, MSG, scallions, ginger, etc. to taste. Drink the soup and eat the duck meat as desired.
2. Half a placenta and 10 grams of cordyceps. Rinse the placenta clean, cut it into pieces, and stew it with the cordyceps. Add a little seasoning and eat the meat and drink the soup.
3. 15-20 grams of prepared aconite root, 150 grams of ginger, appropriate amount of garlic, 500 grams of dog meat, and appropriate amount of peanut oil. Simmer the ginger until cooked, wash and chop the dog meat, first sauté the garlic cloves in peanut oil in a pot for a short while, add an appropriate amount of water, then add the dog meat, prepared aconite root, and simmered ginger slices, and cook together for 2 hours. Serve hot in appropriate portions at different times.
What should we pay attention to in daily life?
1. In sexual life, one should neither indulge in excessive sexual activity nor abstain from it, but maintain the balance of Yin and Yang in the body.
2. A light and nutritious diet is recommended. You can eat more celery and acidic foods. Avoid spicy and irritating foods, and abstain from smoking and alcohol.
Excessive semen volume
Couples of childbearing age who have lived together for more than one year after marriage, have regular sexual intercourse, and have not used contraception, and the woman is of normal sex but has not become pregnant. The semen is copious and thin, often accompanied by symptoms such as lower back and knee pain, spermatorrhea, and difficulty urinating.
What are the symptoms?
The semen is copious and thin, often accompanied by symptoms such as lower back and knee pain, spermatorrhea, and difficulty urinating.
What tests should be done?
1. Semen volume: A single ejaculation volume exceeding 6 ml can be diagnosed as excessive semen volume. In clinical diagnosis, the average value of two consecutive semen volume measurements should be taken.
2. Routine semen analysis: The semen volume is large and the quality is thin, with low sperm density, generally less than 40×10⁹/L, and abnormal sperm morphology may also be observed.
How does Western medicine treat this?
There is currently no routine treatment for this disease; treatment is mostly symptomatic, targeting the underlying cause.
1. For excessive semen volume caused by hyperadrenocortical function, different treatment measures such as antihypertensive, lipid-lowering, blood sugar-lowering, and potassium supplementation can be adopted according to the patient's condition.
2. For excessive semen volume caused by hyperfunction of accessory glands, estrogen therapy should be used, with estradiol often used to counteract the effects of androgens such as testosterone, thereby reducing the secretion of accessory glands.
3. For excessive semen volume caused by chronic inflammation of accessory glands, infection should be controlled, and seminal vesiculitis or prostatitis should be actively treated with antibiotics. Sulfamethoxazole is generally the first-line treatment, 1 gram orally twice daily for 1-2 weeks; kanamycin can also be administered intramuscularly, 0.5 grams twice daily.
